About this treatment
Grow longer, fuller and darker lashes with a prescription treatment.
LATISSE® is a prescription bimatoprost solution for inadequate or sparse eyelashes. Applied along the upper lash line as directed, it extends the eyelash growth phase; a medical consultation is needed to confirm it is suitable for you and to explain correct application, possible side effects and the need for continued use.
Bimatoprost is believed to increase the time eyelashes remain in their active growth phase. With consistent upper-lash-line application, lashes can gradually become longer, fuller and darker.
LATISSE® is applied with a sterile applicator to clean skin along the upper eyelid margin, not directly into the eye or along the lower lash line. Continued use is needed to maintain the result.
Prescription guidance matters.
LATISSE® is a prescription treatment, not a cosmetic serum. A clinician needs to review eye health, current drops or medications, pregnancy or nursing status and previous reactions before deciding whether it is appropriate.
Application technique matters because the solution is intended for the upper eyelid margin. Using a fresh sterile applicator for each eye and removing excess solution helps keep treatment controlled and consistent with the prescribed directions.
Discuss eye health as well as lash appearance.
LATISSE® is a prescription treatment, so a consultation should include eye health and medicines as well as the appearance of your lashes. Tell the clinician if you use eye drops or have had an eye condition or procedure. Bring the names of products you already apply around your eyes.
Ask for the directions for the prescribed product and what to do if irritation or an eye symptom develops. Discuss the expected time to assess the response and what ongoing use would involve. Do not substitute a friend’s application routine for your own instructions.
Common questions
How is LATISSE® applied?
LATISSE® is applied as prescribed along the upper eyelid margin using the supplied sterile applicators, with excess blotted away. It is not placed directly in the eye. Ask the prescriber to explain the application technique and contact-lens instructions before starting, and use the patient leaflet as your reference at home rather than improvising with a cosmetic brush or another lash serum's directions.
How does it support lash growth?
The active ingredient, bimatoprost, affects the eyelash growth cycle and can increase lash length, thickness and darkness. It is a prescription medicine, so suitability and possible unwanted effects deserve the same attention as the cosmetic goal. Tell us whether your concern is a recent change or your usual lash appearance, and describe products you have already tried before discussing an appropriate next step.
When will I notice a change?
Change develops over weeks with consistent prescribed use, rather than after one application. Ask when to review progress and what to do if you notice irritation or no improvement. Comparing photographs in similar lighting can help you describe changes at a review, but do not use an online before-and-after image as a deadline your own lashes must meet.
What happens if I stop using it?
The effect is maintained through ongoing treatment; after stopping, lashes gradually return toward their previous appearance. Discuss this maintenance commitment before starting, including the routine and cost you are comfortable with. If you want to stop because of an eye symptom or reaction, contact the prescriber for guidance rather than restarting later without explaining what happened.
Why do I need a consultation for LATISSE®?
The consultation reviews eye conditions, eye medicines and your health history before a prescription is considered. LATISSE® can cause eye irritation, eyelid skin darkening and potentially permanent changes in iris pigmentation. Ask how these risks relate to you and which symptoms should prompt contact. Knowing how to use the product is only one part of deciding whether it is appropriate.
Should LATISSE® be applied to the lower lash line?
No. The prescribed application area is the upper eyelid margin, not the lower lash line, and extra applications do not speed growth. If the technique feels awkward, ask for clarification before continuing. Keep the supplied instructions available and discuss any accidental spread or irritation with the prescriber rather than trying to correct it by changing the dose yourself.
Recommendations are informational. A clinical consultation is required to confirm suitability, risks and expected results.
