What Is Photorejuvenation?

Photorejuvenation is a non-invasive skincare treatment that uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to emit precise bursts of light energy into the skin. The light targets dark pigment (melanin) and red blood vessels without damaging surrounding skin — improving age spots, sun spots, redness, fine lines, and uneven texture.

IPL also stimulates collagen production, promoting skin elasticity and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time.

What Photorejuvenation Treats
  • Age spots and brown spots
  • Sun damage and uneven pigmentation
  • Visible red blood vessels and broken capillaries
  • Blotchiness and redness (including rosacea-related)
  • Fine lines and early wrinkles
  • Dull, uneven skin tone
The Treatment Experience

Most clients find photorejuvenation quite comfortable — often comparing the sensation to a light flick against the skin.

What to expect after treatment:

  • Age spots may initially darken right after treatment — this is normal and they will gradually fade over 10–14 days
  • Visible veins fade over the same 10–14 day period
  • Mild swelling and redness similar to a light sunburn may occur, typically resolving within 24–72 hours
  • These temporary changes do not affect normal activities
Post-Treatment Care
  • Apply SPF 30+ daily and avoid direct sun exposure
  • Avoid tanning beds and self-tanners for several weeks
  • Use gentle, hydrating skincare as directed by your nurse
  • Avoid harsh active ingredients (retinoids, AHAs) until the skin has fully recovered
Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions are needed?

A series of 3–6 sessions is typically recommended, spaced several weeks apart for best results. Your nurse will create a personalized plan at your consultation.

How is IPL different from laser?

IPL uses a broad spectrum of light wavelengths that can be filtered to target specific concerns. Lasers use a single focused wavelength. IPL can address multiple concerns in a single session, making it very versatile.

Is there downtime?

Minimal. Mild redness may persist for up to 72 hours. Most clients return to normal activities the same day.
