Vein Treatments

Sclerotherapy (injection therapy) and laser vein therapy for spider and varicose veins. Both methods are safe, effective, and require no surgery. Veins fade and disappear over several weeks following treatment. Minimal downtime, maximum results.

Vein Treatments — In Depth

We offer two complementary approaches to treating spider veins and varicose veins: Sclerotherapy (injection therapy) and Laser Vein Therapy. Our team will recommend the best option — or combination — based on your specific situation.

What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins (scientifically known as telangiectasias) are clusters of tiny blood vessels that develop close to the surface of the skin. They commonly appear as red, blue, or purple lines resembling a spider's web — frequently found on the legs and face.

While generally harmless, spider veins cause aesthetic concerns for many people. Both Sclerotherapy and Laser Vein Therapy offer proven, non-surgical solutions.

Sclerotherapy — How It Works

Sclerotherapy involves the precise injection of a specialized sclerosing agent directly into the spider vein. This agent causes the vein walls to swell and stick together, gradually sealing off the vessel.

Over several weeks, the treated vessel fades and becomes barely visible or disappears completely. The procedure is virtually painless and requires no anesthesia.

You can expect an improvement of approximately 80% in treated vessels. The number of sessions required depends on the severity — a personalized assessment is given at your complimentary consultation.

All injections are performed by our qualified medical staff under the supervision of Dr. McDonald.

Laser Vein Therapy — How It Works

Laser vein therapy uses a focused beam of light to gently heat and target the affected blood vessel, causing it to gradually fade away. There are two types available at our clinic:

Simple Laser Vein Treatment

Performed externally on the skin's surface. Ideal for spider veins and small varicose veins just beneath the skin. Multiple sessions are typically scheduled every 6–12 weeks.

Endovenous Laser Treatment

Designed for larger varicose veins. A laser fiber is passed through a thin catheter into the affected vein, monitored via duplex ultrasound. Compared to traditional vein ligation, this method is less painful with a shorter recovery period.

For those who prefer to avoid needles, laser therapy provides an alternative option. Your nurse will recommend the most suitable approach during your consultation.

Recovery & What to Expect

After Sclerotherapy: You can walk immediately. Light activity is encouraged. Avoid strenuous exercise for a few days. Compression stockings (worn for 1–3 weeks) are often recommended to support healing.

After Simple Laser Treatment: Walk immediately, resume regular activities shortly after.

After Endovenous Laser Treatment: Compression stockings for approximately one week. A follow-up duplex ultrasound examination confirms the vein is properly sealed.

Minor redness, swelling, or skin discoloration may occur temporarily. Serious complications are uncommon when performed by experienced medical professionals.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments will I need?

Sclerotherapy typically requires 2–4 sessions. Laser vein therapy usually requires 2–6 sessions. The exact number depends on the extent and severity of the veins — assessed at your free consultation.

When will I see results?

For small spider veins treated with Sclerotherapy, improvements are typically visible within 3–6 weeks. Larger veins may take 3–4 months. Laser therapy results appear gradually over several weeks to months.

Is the treatment painful?

Sclerotherapy is virtually painless with minimal discomfort (mild stinging at injection sites). Laser treatments feel like a slight warming sensation on the skin.

Are there any risks?

Possible temporary side effects include redness, swelling, skin discoloration, itching, or mild bruising. Serious complications are rare under expert medical care.
